Single Payer and Retirees
Retiree health insurance plans have been cut b
ack by many private employers due to their escalating cost. The same is true for many public pension programs. Such cutbacks leave many people vulnerable as they approach a stage of life when they have higher medical costs.
Out-of-pocket health care expenditures have been estimated to take up to a third of retiree income.
A single payer system would end this by covering everyone regardless of their age, income, or employment status.
